Firefighter Rachel Streeting, from Warwickshire FRS, received our support following a back injury which she feared could end her career on operational duty – and she says we helped her mental health, as well as physical. Steve Johnson has been one of our dedicated volunteers from the moment he started in Cleveland Fire Brigade in 1992. Now, as he retires from his job, he reveals why his roles have been so rewarding – and why he hopes to continue into the future. We’ve supported Phil Maynard for years – firstly with his mental health and more recently following a hip replacement. Now he’s going above and beyond to show his appreciation. When the pandemic hit in 2020 and pressure grew on the ambulance service, on-call firefighter Martin Green volunteered to help out – never expecting to fall in love and become engaged in the process. After 30 years in the fire service, most of which she’s spent volunteering for the Charity, Kim McNeil has now retired. Here she shares how much it’s meant to her.
