Calum Balding, a wholetime firefighter with North Yorkshire FRS, was unable to do any exercise or work for more than a year as he battled bowel cancer. Here he reveals how he was helped on his journey back to fitness… Thanks to your kind-hearted donations, we’ve been able to continue offering support to people like Guy Pedliham, a Station Officer with LFB, who’s been helped on several occasions with his physical and mental health. Anthony Chaplin initially injured his back in 2005 and now suffers with a lot of pain. While he knows the odds of him getting operational again are low, he says having support at Jubilee House has given him hope that he’ll be able to stay in the fire service. A group of men have set up a walking group that meets every week and encourages anyone joining to discuss any concerns or struggles they’re going through – before signposting anyone that needs further support to us. Nicola Fletcher, a Ministry of Defence firefighter who’s also on call with Scottish FRS, injured her ankle almost two years ago and says we helped her get back to full fitness, to ultimately be on the run again.
